Two local women are accused of abandoning six dogs in a vacant house

CLAY TWP., Pennsylvania (EYT) – State police in Butler have charged two women with allegedly abandoning six dogs in a vacant home in Clay Township.

According to court documents, Butler State Police charged the 31-year-old Tiara Mercedes Dark and 52 years old Heidi Sue Darkboth of Kittanning, on August 14 in the office of Magistrate Judge Lewis E. Stoughton.

According to police, on August 1, 2024, at approximately 6:24 p.m., six Border Collie dogs were discovered abandoned at 147 Queen Junction Road in Clay Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania during an unoccupied hour.

According to police, the dogs were removed from the property as strays and taken to a local animal shelter.

Police found the dogs dirty and covered in their own feces and urine. Veterinary examinations revealed several health problems.

The investigation revealed that the owners of the dogs Tiara Dark And Heidi Dark. according to police.

They were accused of the following offenses:

– Animal Neglect – Shelter/Protection, Misdemeanor 3 (two counts)
– Animal Neglect – Housing/Protection, Summary (four counts)
– Failure to register a dog older than 3 months, summary (six charges)

A preliminary arraignment is scheduled for August 27 at 9:30 a.m. with Judge Stoughton presiding.
