Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Chairman YS Sharmila strongly condemned the rape and murder of the doctor in Kolkata on August 17 (Saturday).

Expressing her anguish and pain on social media platform 'X', she said the heinous crime was an ugly stain and a deep scar on humanity. “It is an act of heinous barbarism,” she reiterated, adding that if people who save lives have to suffer in such horrific, unsafe conditions, “then we stop calling ourselves human beings.” She said as a woman she was shaken and as a mother she was filled with a deep sense of fear and restlessness.

She demanded justice for the victim by bringing the perpetrators to book in a fast-track trial. She said the central government and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal should stop playing blame games and look at the situation as a human being first and foremost to ensure justice for the victim. “We stand with the doctors and the entire medical fraternity and support the strike call by the members of the Indian Medical Association,” she said.
