Leicester vs. Tottenham predictions: The Foxes are brought back to earth

Tottenham will be looking to hit the ground running when they travel to the King Power Stadium on Monday night to face last season's Championship winners Leicester in the Premier League.

Ange Postecoglou's team finished fifth last season and was praised for their attacking football, but their Achilles heel was their weaknesses in defence.

Leicester won the league last season under Enzo Maresca, who has since moved to Chelsea, and his place on the bench has been taken by former Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper.

Cooper is likely to play in a 4-2-3-1 formation, but has few options in the final third due to Jamie Vardy's injury, while Patson Daka's participation is questionable.

Tom Cannon is expected to lead the attack, while Facundo Buonanotte, who joined on loan from Brighton, is expected to start.

New Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke should lead the attack following his recent move from Bournemouth, but other summer signings Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray may have to settle for a place on the bench.

Yves Bissouma has been suspended by the club due to an off-field incident and Richarlison is not fit enough to play from the start.

Leicester lost their last three friendlies in preparation for this game, failing to score against Palermo, Augsburg and Lens.

The Foxes won 17 of their 23 home games in the championship last season and collected a total of 52 points at the King Power.

Tottenham won seven of their 19 away league games last season, only Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Manchester United could surpass that.

The last time the two teams met was in February 2023. Leicester won 4-1, while Tottenham won the first meeting of the 2022/2023 season 6-2.

With Leicester lacking a recognised striker at this level, Tottenham should easily be able to pick up three points this weekend and start the season with a win.

While the Foxes lack strength in the final third, Tottenham brought in Solanke to bolster their attacking options and he had a brilliant 2023–24 season, scoring 19 goals in the top flight.

Postecoglou has already completed one season as Spurs head coach and more will be expected from the Australian tactician this season, but a Leicester side should pose no problems under a new manager.

Although Cooper is an experienced manager, he faces the difficult task of keeping the Foxes in the Premier League and the enormity of the challenge will be clear on Monday.
