Police: Metal pipe used in robbery in Petaluma, suspect arrested

According to Petaluma police, a man attacked another man with a metal pipe at Steamer Landing late Thursday afternoon.

At around 6:15 p.m. that day, police dispatch received a 911 call about the incident, according to a police press release. Officers arrived “within minutes” and found 54-year-old Joseph Anderson actively attacking the victim, although no longer with the pipe in his hand.

After Anderson complied with commands, police searched the area and found the metal pipe allegedly used in the attack, according to the press release. Nearby witnesses told Petaluma officers the attack was unprovoked.

Anderson was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and booked into the Sonoma County Jail.

The victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries and declined further medical treatment by Petaluma Fire Department paramedics.
