MBTA Park Street man killed in rail accident – ​​NBC Boston

A man has died after falling onto a live power rail at the MBTA's Park Street Station in Boston, transit police said.

The incident occurred shortly before noon on the southbound platform, police added.

According to initial investigations, the man appeared to be impaired and/or under the influence of intoxicants.

He was unsteady on his feet shortly before he stumbled into the “pit” (the right of way) and landed on the live rail, police said. He did not survive the contact with the live rail and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Starting Thursday, taking the MBTA will be as easy as tapping your phone or credit card.

Detectives from the traffic police are investigating the incident, but assume that no third party negligence was involved.

The traffic police expressed their sincere condolences to the victim's family and friends. His name has not yet been released publicly.
