1 person evacuated by rescue helicopter, US 285 closed after crash

One person was taken to the hospital by AirLife rescue helicopter after a crash involving at least two cars closed U.S. 285 near Bailey on Saturday.

According to Trooper Sherri Mendez, Colorado State Patrol officers arrived at the scene of the accident around 7:33 a.m. Saturday.

Shortly afterward, the highway was closed in both directions between Traet Private Road and Mooredale Road in Park County – about 18 miles south of Aspen Park – according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

As of Saturday afternoon, no date for the expected reopening had yet been announced.

Mendez said it was confirmed that at least two vehicles were involved in the accident – a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van and a Toyota Tacoma truck with a trailer.

According to Mendez, there were no confirmed fatalities as of 3:30 p.m. Saturday and one person was taken to hospital by an AirLife rescue helicopter.

According to CDOT's live traffic map, motorists reported traffic congestion in both directions on both sides of the accident scene.

Information about the number of people involved in the accident and the cause of the accident was not yet available on Saturday afternoon.
