Shang-Chi 2 receives a promising release update from Simu Liu

Simu Liu recently confirmed that Shang Chi 2 is still in the works during an interview. The sequel to the popular 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is moving forward, although Marvel Studios has not announced any official news about the project recently.




In an interview with PTI (via Times of India), Liu gave an update on the sequel, explaining: “A lot of it is above my pay grade, but it definitely happens. I'm really excited to work on it and it's going to be great. I really can't say more about it.”

Given the success of Shang-Chi, the announcement of a sequel is inevitable. There are countless iconic Shang-Chi storylines that could be adapted in the sequel.


Although Marvel has not officially confirmed the release date, there are several untitled projects on Marvel Studios’ calendar over the next few years that may make room for Shang Chi 2The possible theatrical release dates for these mystery films are February 13, 2026, November 6, 2026, July 23, 2027 and November 5, 2027.


The release date of Shang-Chi 2 remains uncertain

The official list of upcoming MCU films includes Captain America: Brave New World which will begin the year on 14 February 2025, followed by Thunderbolts* on May 2, 2025. Fans can look forward to The Fantastic Four: First Steps Arrival on July 25, 2025 and blade will be added to the list on November 7, 2025. The next big ensemble film, Avengers: Endgame, is planned for 1 May 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars will end the current phase on May 7, 2027.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringspremiered in Hollywood on August 16, 2021, and was released in the United States on September 3 as part of Phase Four of the MCU. It grossed over $432 million worldwide, making it the ninth highest-grossing film of 2021. The film was praised for its portrayal of Asian culture, its thrilling action sequences, and the performances of its cast, including Simu Liu and Tony Leung. It also received a nomination for Best Visual Effects at the 94th Academy Awards.


In 2021, Kevin Feige clarified the possible status of Shang-Chi in the MCU, stating: “The initial reactions to the characters and to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings alone gives me great hope that people will want to see more of these characters. We certainly have lots of ideas about where we could take them and where we could use them. What's so funny is that we know the film works when people ask not just about the title character, but also about the co-stars or supporting actors. And with this film, that's particularly encouraging because we think they're spectacular and we think they have great potential in the future.”
