The Yuppie Murder describes the murder of Carol Stuart

It is one of the most shocking true crime stories from Boston, Massachusetts: In October 1989, Charles and Carol Stuart, a young pregnant couple, were the victims of a carjacking, robbery and subsequent shooting on their way home from a childbirth class in the Mission Hill neighborhood.

Tragically, Carol and her unborn child succumbed to their injuries in the attack; Charles survived and later gave authorities a description of the attacker—a raspy-voiced black man in a tracksuit—that caused racial tension and panic throughout Boston for months. (Boston police reportedly conducted 150 searches of black Bostonians as a result of the case.) But when a surprise witness from the Stuart family came forward with new information, both that description of the perpetrator and the case itself began to falter.
