Bir Protik Faruk E Azam, adviser to the ministries of Liberation War Affairs and Disaster Management, said any fake freedom fighter identified would be punished for “deceiving” the state.

He made these remarks at a press conference at the Chattogram Circuit House on Saturday on the law and order situation in the city.

“If we look closely at the list of freedom fighters, we see what really happened. They became freedom fighters in many ways and in many different ways,” Faruk said.

“We will investigate the matter (fake freedom fighters) and those who are real freedom fighters will remain on the list. The fake ones will be removed. Many of them should be punished for cheating the state.”

“I have asked the ministry to investigate the actual situation,” he added.

Later, the counselor visited the burnt down Kotwali police station and spoke to the policemen. He also requested the cooperation of the locals to normalise the activities of the police stations.

Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police Saiful Islam, Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Fakhruzzaman and other senior officials of various law enforcement agencies of Chattogram were present on the occasion.
