Box truck accident on I-95 in Sidney, Maine – NECN

A woman was seriously injured Friday afternoon when a box truck overturned on Interstate 95 in Sidney, Maine.

According to NBC10's Boston affiliate News Center Maine, state police were notified around 3 p.m. Friday of a box truck driving “erratically” on I-95 northbound near mile marker 112.

As troopers responded, they received several calls reporting that the same truck had crashed into the median at mile marker 118, the Maine Department of Public Safety said in a news release.

Police believe the driver, 42-year-old Ashley Peters of Ellsworth, fell asleep at the wheel of the Eastern Mold Remediation van, causing the truck to hit the center barrier, strike a tree and eventually roll over onto its passenger side.

Peters, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken to a local hospital. She is expected to recover, state police said.

I-95 northbound was limited to one lane due to cleanup efforts at the scene. The road was fully reopened to traffic shortly after 6 p.m., News Center Maine reported.
