Texas Center Jake Majors struggles with injury

AUSTIN – The Texas Longhorns are reportedly dealing with another injury on offense just before the start of the season.

According to reports from OnTexasFootball, Texas center Jake Majors was unable to participate in the second scrimmage of training camp on Saturday due to a lower-body injury that forced him to wear a walking boot “as a precautionary measure.”

Majors, entering his fifth season with the team, has started 41 of 42 career games and is a key part of the Longhorns' offense heading into the 2024 season. Texas' O-line is experienced and talented with Kelvin Banks at left tackle and Hayden Conner at left guard, but it all starts up front, where Majors passes the ball to Quinn Ewers.

Last season, he earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors. On August 9, Majors was named to the Rimington Trophy preseason watch list for the second consecutive year. The award is given annually to the nation's top center.

He spoke earlier this offseason about his decision to return to college for another year rather than apply for the 2024 NFL Draft.

“I decided to come back because I felt like my job here wasn't done,” Majors said. “I felt like I had more to give to the University of Texas, and ultimately, you know, talking to coach [Kyle] Flood, coach Sark… They gave me this opportunity and I took it and I'm really happy to be back.”

No. 4 Texas will open its season at home against Colorado State on Saturday, Aug. 31. The Longhorns will need Majors at full strength this season, and he has less than two weeks to recover and prepare for the Rams.
