Mike Tyson's leaked purse for Jake Paul fight explains U-turn before press conference

As Mike Tyson and Jake Paul prepare for their media appearances, many fans are asking one question: Why, exactly why, is this fight happening?

After all, the prospect of a 58-year-old and a 27-year-old going head-to-head isn't very appealing on paper. It's risky – and there's a reason the upcoming fight is so shrouded in controversy.

Tyson insists he is doing “great,” but he continues to have health concerns after suffering from a stomach ulcer earlier this year.

Iron Mike is arguably the best heavyweight boxer of all time and shaped the sport in the 1980s and 1990s.

“Let him rule, give him his time.

“I don't want to fight him, man. I fight real fighters.”

“I fight against fighters who hurt big, strong, scary men. That's who I fight against.”

But today, Tyson has changed his mind. Rightly or wrongly, his return to the ring is imminent.

And let's be honest: The reason for this is money. It's not yet confirmed how much Tyson makes, but former UFC star Henry Cejudo said earlier this year that it's probably around $20 million.

“I mean, you know what I respect, Uncle Mike… But obviously it takes two to tango,” he said earlier this year.

“I have a feeling Mike is probably going to get a really good payday.

“He will probably end up earning close to $20 million and will soon be 58 years old.”

The Spanish newspaper Marca also quoted “unofficial sources” according to which he would earn $20 million for his return to the ring.

Although Tyson and Paul are under criticism, it is no wonder that they continue to pursue their plans.

Tyson is well paid and his legacy as a boxing legend is already secured, even if a loss would be a blemish on his record.
