Alan Shearer speaks for all of us about the incident involving Ben Brereton Diaz and Fabian Schar

Alan Shearer speaks after Saturday's game at St. James' Park.

Newcastle United won 1-0 against the first club of the English and NUFC legend.

We all know there is no doubt about who Alan Shearer is loyal to, but he needn't have been biased when talking about what everyone had experienced in that game.

The big topic of conversation was, of course, the red card for Fabian Schär in the 28th minute and the role that Ben Brereton Diaz played in this decision (not to mention the referee and the VAR…).

Ben Brereton Diaz runs after Fabian Schar and pushes him to the ground.

Schar jumps up and they collide, then BOTH players move their heads forward.

The Southampton player then embarrassed himself by falling to the ground and trying to send Schar off the pitch.

This was Alan Shearer’s opinion on the incident in Match of The Day – 17 August 2024:

“They (Newcastle United) can't have too many complaints, you know the rules, if you bump your head against someone you risk a red card.

“He (Fabian Schar) takes the bait completely and it is simply embarrassing what Ben Brereton Diaz does and how he reacts to it.

“It's really embarrassing.

“It’s not nice to see.

“I would say they both put their heads together.

“They both put their heads together and the way he (Ben Brereton Diaz) goes down (leads to Schar being sent off),

“It's a red card, I'm not going to complain about it, he deserved it and they will be punished.

“If anything, it will probably add another £5m to the transfer fee for Marc Guehi. If they try to get him, he (Fabian Schar) will miss the next three games.”
