Man faces trial for manslaughter under the influence of alcohol after two fatal traffic accidents

A man is facing a charge of manslaughter while under the influence of alcohol in connection with a traffic accident that left two people dead early Saturday morning in Janesville, Janesville police said.

Just before 2:15 a.m. Saturday, emergency crews were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of East Delavan Drive and Beloit Avenue in Janesville, Sergeant SD Welte said in a statement.

The investigation revealed that Koty M. Diaz, 32, of Janesville failed to stop his vehicle at a red light on Delavan Drive and collided with a vehicle traveling north on Beloit Avenue. Both occupants of the vehicle, which was traveling north on Beloit Avenue, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Rock County Medical Examiner's Office, Welte said.

Diaz showed signs of impairment, failed a sobriety test and a Rock County judge signed a warrant for a blood draw, the results of which are pending, Welte said.
