Next month, a man accused of attempted murder following an accident outside Emporia last year will go on trial.

The trial of Travis Duane Edwards will now proceed and begin on September 3 after a motion for a hearing was filed Friday in Lyon County District Court. Judge Laura Miser granted a motion by the state to confirm testimony, as well as separate motions by the prosecution for evidence in limine — the prohibition of inadmissible testimony at various points in the trial — and for cross-examination.

Edwards is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and three counts of aggravated assault and obstructing prosecution. The charges follow an April 2023 crash on U.S. Highway 50 near Road C that left two people dead. Edwards and three other people were injured in the crash.
