Ugandan imprisonment! “The experiences in prison changed my view of freedom” – Omah Lay
Afrobeats star Stanley Omah Didia, widely known as Omah Lay, has shared insights into how his recent imprisonment in Uganda has had a lasting impact on his life and career.

Omah Lay and fellow artist Tems were arrested in Uganda after attending a concert at Speke Resort in Kampala on December 12, 2020. The event, held under strict COVID-19 restrictions, led to their arrest and subsequent charges. After spending three days in custody, both artists were released on bail.

In a candid interview with Amazon Music, Omah Lay spoke about the personal transformation he underwent during his imprisonment. The experience, he revealed, deepened his appreciation for freedom, a feeling that now permeates his music.

“After spending those three days in a cell, my appreciation for freedom grew even greater,” Omah Lay shared it. “I put this newfound reverence into every record I make. While I don't want to blame Uganda too much for my imprisonment, it has undeniably changed my perspective on what freedom means.”

Omah Lay, known for his hit single “Soso”, said the ordeal had strengthened his determination to express his passion for freedom through his music.
