Man sentenced to 11 years in prison for manslaughter in Daytona Beach

A South Daytona man was sentenced to 11 years in prison Thursday for punching another man in the face, knocking him over and causing a fatal head injury.

Allen Henry Gainous, 56, was found guilty of manslaughter after a two-day jury trial.

District Judge Michael Orfinger sentenced Gainous to 11 years in prison.

On February 11, 2022, Gainous got into an argument with another man outside a convenience store on Nova Road in Daytona Beach. Gainous punched the man in the face three times. The blows caused the man to fall backward and hit his head on the concrete of the sidewalk, prosecutors said.

“The case is a grim reminder that fists can be deadly weapons,” District Attorney RJ Larizza said in a press release.

Assistant District Attorneys Ashley McCarthy and Boone Forkner prosecuted the case.
