RB Ray Davis pushes to be James Cook's true replacement in Buffalo

It's been a day since the Buffalo Bills' first preseason win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. If you're a fan who likes defensive football, yesterday's game was your Super Bowl. However, if you're hoping to see the scoreboard light up, you may have wasted your time watching this game. At the end of the day, Bills fans are just happy Buffalo won.

These games are great opportunities for players to explain to the coaching staff why they should either be a starter or at least be on the roster for the start of the regular season. Whether they are NFL travel players or rookies, all players are expected to do their best to keep their job.

One player who was particularly underrated against the Steelers was rookie running back Ray Davis. The Bills selected Davis in the fourth round this year to give James Cook more running options. Davis and running back Ty Johnson would most likely compete for the RB2 spot.

In yesterday's game against the Steelers, Davis had 8 carries for 58 yards and nearly scored his team's first touchdown of the season. He also had the team's longest run at 19 yards.

Davis ran hard between the tackles and showed some of his physicality, while running back Ty Johnson only managed one run for six yards.

Davis is a great complement to Cook and has shown he can do some of the same things Johnson can do. That's not to say Davis will steal a spot on the roster from Johnson, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Davis ranked ahead of Johnson.

Before the third and final preseason game, Davis should do some last-minute drills before playing real football against the Arizona Cardinals. Unless the coaching staff relies on experience, Davis may have little chance of competing for the second running back position before the regular season.
