A weekend of chaos in Albuquerque

This weekend was marked by a lot of chaos and violence. On Saturday, around 2:30 p.m., an armed burglary suspect fled the Family Dollar on Broadway. The individual reportedly pulled out his gun, pointed it at an Albuquerque Police Department officer, and told authorities he was not going back to jail. Eventually, the suspect fled and hid in a shed in the 400 block of Arno. The suspect fired at least one shot while in the shed, and an APD officer fired a shot at some point, hitting the suspect. Eventually, the APD SWAT team was called and attempted to get the individual to surrender. Their attempts were unsuccessful, as at some point the suspect was shot after he refused to drop the weapon and made some type of movement, possibly with the firearm.

On Sunday morning, around 3:00 a.m., APD's crash team was called to the area between 47th and Central for a head-on collision. Initial reports indicate a black Dodge truck was traveling eastbound on Central Avenue when it lost control near 47th Street SW and crossed into the westbound lanes. The truck collided head-on with a black Toyota Scion traveling westbound. The driver of the Toyota Scion sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Both the driver and passenger of the Dodge truck were taken to a nearby hospital.

Also on Sunday morning, when APD officers were called to the crash at the corner of Central and 47th, they were notified of a fatal shooting at the corner of 5th and Gold. At the scene, officers found one person fatally shot and another with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. The injured victim was transported to a local hospital.

Finally, two people were stabbed at Civic Plaza on Sunday at around 2:40 p.m.
