KOLKATA: The father of the 31-year-old second-year postgraduate intern Physician out of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, who was brutally raped and murdered, expressed her dissatisfaction on Sunday with the actions of CM Mamata Banerjeeand accused the government of trying to silence those who demanded justice for his daughter by locking her up.
“The chief minister talks about ensuring justice and has taken to the streets herself. But then attempts are being made to send the common people who demand justice to jail. Now we are not satisfied with the chief minister. We have refused to accept the compensation offered to us by the state government,” said the victim's father.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday evening, he said, “The ongoing investigation has not yielded any results yet. We hope to get results and justice soon. And that will bring peace to my daughter's soul. No one from the department or the college has cooperated with us. The entire Department of Pulmonology is responsible for my daughter murder because we suspect that some people from the department were involved in the crime,” he said.
He also suspects that there was an intention to destroy evidence, as their suspicions were further heightened by the immediate cremation of his daughter's body.
“There were three bodies waiting to be cremated at the crematorium premises, but our daughter's body was cremated first. We were so shaken and shocked after losing our only child that we couldn't think about it,” he said.
The victim's mother said she considers everyone who stands by his family during these difficult times as her sons and daughters. The grieving mother also mentioned that the CBI assured them that the accused would be arrested as soon as possible and given the most severe punishment.
“I consider all those who stand by our side as my sons and daughters. The CBI has assured us that the accused will be arrested as soon as possible and will be punished severely based on what we have told them,” she said.

The victim's mother had previously expressed doubts about the arrest of the volunteer Sandra Roy and said she did not believe he was the real culprit. “The forensic department officials who came to our house also told us that such a crime could not have been committed by just one man and hinted that there may be other accused involved in the crime,” she added.
