Carl Boardley wins final Silverstone race as his title rivals struggle – TouringCarTimes

Carl Boardley won the final TCR UK race of the weekend at Silverstone while his main title rivals struggled.

The Cupra driver started second and took the lead from pole sitter Adam Shepherd when the lights went out.

But Shepherd fought back and took the lead again in the last corner of the first lap.

The accident struck title candidate Callum Newsham, who collided with Brad Hutchison in Turn 1. The result was a break in the front suspension of Hyundai driver Newsham, who was slow to return to the pits and had to retire.

The next title contender to suffer a disaster was Shepherd, who, while leading mid-race, suddenly slowed down, allowing Boardley to take an easy win.

The front splitter on Shepherd's Cupra came loose, causing severe vibrations for the Area Motorsport driver, who had to pit for repairs and dropped to eleventh and last place.

Steven Laidlaw inherited second place at this stage of the race, but had Hyundai driver Darron Lewis close behind him. And Lewis converted the move to second place with two minutes to go.

CBM With Hart GT driver Boardley won the race by over ten seconds from Lewis, while Laidlaw secured the final place on the podium.

Hutchison drove his Cupra to fourth place ahead of Audi driver Luke Sargeant, while Matthew Wilson completed the top six.

Series promoter Stewart Lines was classified seventh, but received a total of 15 penalty seconds for ignoring the track limits.

Boardley leads the rankings with 478 points, with Newsham in second place, 60 points behind, but before losing points.

The next TCR UK race will take place at Thruxton on 21 and 22 September.
