Report: Steelers player Warren could miss Week 1 with hamstring injury

The Pittsburgh Steelers just don't have any luck.

Running back Jaylen Warren is expected to miss several weeks after suffering a hamstring injury during Saturday's preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Sunday, according to NFL.com's Grant Gordon.

Warren's status for Week 1 is reportedly uncertain. The Steelers begin their regular season on September 8 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Warren is coming off a strong 2023 season in which he rushed for 784 yards (5.3 per carry) and gained 1,154 scrimmage yards despite finishing behind Najee Harris in the rankings and not starting a game. The 25-year-old also scored four touchdowns.

Warren, an undrafted rookie in 2022, showed his potential in his first NFL season, averaging 4.9 yards on 77 rushing attempts. If Warren misses the start of the regular season, Cordarrelle Patterson could get more snaps behind Harris. The versatile Patterson – one of the NFL's most dangerous return specialists of all time – signed with Pittsburgh in March after serving as the Atlanta Falcons' running back for the past three seasons.

Injuries were a problem for the Steelers before the regular season. In addition to Warren, quarterback Russell Wilson missed some time in training camp due to a calf injury, starting center Nate Herbig is out indefinitely due to a rotator cuff tear, and offensive tackle Troy Fautanu, who was selected in the first round, is currently battling a knee injury.
