Shooting reported near Publix at Mariner Commons in Spring Hill, Florida

A shooting was reported near the Publix grocery store at Mariner Commons in Spring Hill, Florida. The Hernando County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post that the incident may have occurred at either the Mariner Cay Apartments or the Mariner Commons Shopping Center.

“MARINER CAY APARTMENTS/MARINER COMMONS – MARINER BOULEVARD/NORTHCLIFFE BOULEVARD – SPRING HILL

Officers are currently investigating a shooting that occurred at one or both of these locations. THE PUBLIC IS ASKED TO STAY INSIDE THE HOUSES AND STAY AWAY FROM THE AREA AS THE CRIME SCENE IS STILL ACTIVE. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available from investigators on the scene,” police said.

It is currently unclear whether there are any victims.

Several witnesses reported the incident on social media.

“Shooting near Publix near Mariner Commons. I just left that store about an hour ago,” one person wrote on Facebook.

Another reported: “We live right behind the apartments and I literally grabbed my son and ducked, it was so close and loud. Like 10 shots. It was so scary and crazy.”

No information about the suspect has been released so far.
