Doctor rape case in Calcutta: “My daughter was hastily cremated,” claims victim’s father

The Kolkata-based doctor-in-training who was allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was hastily cremated, her father claimed, expressing dissatisfaction with the West Bengal government's handling of the incident.

“There were three bodies in the crematorium, but our daughter's body was cremated first. The chief minister talks about ensuring justice, but the attempts are… Mamata Banerjee is not satisfied and has refused to accept any compensation,” he said, according to ANI-

The father of the 31-year-old medical student who was found dead with multiple injuries on August 9 expressed his frustration with the ongoing CIA investigation, claiming the entire system is involved in the case.

“Nobody from the department or the college has cooperated with us. The entire department is involved in this matter… The ongoing investigation has not yet produced any results. We are hopeful that we will get results,” he said.

What did the victim's mother say?

The victim's mother stated that in the days before the attack, her daughter had expressed reluctance to go to the hospital. “She always said that she didn't like going to RG Kar anymore,” the mother said.

“They didn't let us see our dead daughter's face. We kept begging, but they didn't let us see her face. We were told that an investigation was underway. They made us suffer a lot,” said the doctor's mother.

“One person has been arrested. I am sure many more are involved in this incident. I think the entire department is responsible for the incident… The police have not done a good job at all. I feel that the chief minister is trying to stop the protest. Today she has imposed Section 144 here so that people cannot protest,” she added.

The body of the trainee doctor was found in the seminar room of RG Kar Hospital on August 9. The Kolkata Police arrested a volunteer in this connection the next day. The Calcutta High Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the investigation after expressing dissatisfaction with the Kolkata Police.
