Rape and murder case of doctor in Calcutta live: Mamata Banerjee is behind vandalism in hospital, says victim's lawyer

The Kolkata Police has imposed a ban on gatherings of more than five people around the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital from Sunday to August 24. The move follows the Supreme Court's own cognizance on August 9 of the rape and murder of a doctor at the Kolkata hospital. The court's intervention comes soon after the Kolkata High Court handed over the investigation to the CBI after raising concerns over the Kolkata Police's handling of the case.

In recent times, over 200 people have been summoned by the Kolkata police till Sunday. Among those summoned are Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, former BJP MP Locket Chatterjee and two eminent doctors. The summons relate to alleged offences including spreading misinformation and disclosing the identity of the victim. This series of actions underlines the gravity of the case and the attention it continues to attract from both the legal authorities and the public.
