The 40-year-old Cherilus is said to have caused unrest and behaved inappropriately on the flight during the night from Saturday to Sunday.

The flight crew reportedly contacted ground crew at 2 a.m. ET on Sunday and requested state police assistance.

Police officers boarded the plane and ordered the former Tampa Bay Buccaneer to exit the plane at Logan Airport.

Cherilus reportedly refused to leave and was forced to leave the building and arrested by state police, according to a statement to MailOnline.

“The troopers verbally ordered Cherilus to exit the aircraft, but he reacted angrily and refused to cooperate,” state police said.

“Law enforcement officers eventually escorted Cherilus to the jetway and arrested him for disorderly conduct and disrupting the flight crew.”

According to the New York Post, a Delta spokesman said the flight was diverted due to an “unruly customer.”

“Delta has zero tolerance for unlawful conduct and will cooperate with law enforcement authorities to this end,” the statement said.

“We apologize to our customers for the travel delay.”

The other affected passengers were rebooked on a new flight to Dublin, which departed on Sunday evening.

Cherilus is scheduled to be arraigned in East Boston District Court on Monday.

The NFL star retired from the sport in 2017 after 132 appearances.

Cherilus, who was born in Haiti, had a successful professional career with three professional teams.

He was drafted 17th overall by the Detroit Lions from Boston College in 2008.

Travel horror stories

Although most passengers do not experience any major problems during their journey, some people have had terrible experiences, as the US Sun previously reported.

After five years with the Lions, he was signed by the Indianapolis Colts and became the highest-paid right tackle in the sport at the time.

Cherilus then moved to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2015 before ending his career.

He spent his early football years in Massachusetts, where he played football at Sommerville High School.

FLIGHTS FROM HELL

As the US Sun previously reported, these passengers were not the only ones who had to contend with delays and disruptions to their travels this summer.

One family recalled being followed through the airport and to their plane by a man who had a ticket for another trip.
