Kiran Amegadjie is removed from the non-football injury list

There has been an unexpected turn in the Bears' offensive line.

It is impossible to predict in which direction it might go.

The team activated tackle Kiran Amegadjie from the non-football injury list on Sunday and he is expected to improve his football fitness in practice over the next few days.

Since Amegadjie is a rookie and hasn't done any offseason or practice work, it would have been very easy for the Bears not to use him this year. Apparently, they see his potential to help, although GM Ryan Poles said after the draft that he didn't expect Amegadjie to compete for a spot in the starting lineup this year.

Amegadjie suffered a hamstring injury at Yale last year and had to undergo season-ending surgery, and it has been 10 months since then.

Although he's a tackle who was praised for his 36-plus-inch arms, Amegadjie is also versatile at several positions. He played guard at Yale before becoming a tackle his senior year.

For the Bears, Amegadjie is listed as the third left tackle behind backup Larry Borom.
