NTSB publishes preliminary report on plane crash

The National Traffic Safety Authority has published a preliminary report on August 5 plane crash on Jamestown Airport.

The crash of a Cessna Citation from Dunkirk occurred shortly after 10:00 a.m. when the aircraft made an emergency landing at Jamestown Airport.
According to the report, the co-pilot smelled “electrical smoke” during the plane's initial climb, and both pilots noticed it when the plane reached an altitude of about 8,000 feet (2,400 meters). No smoke was visible inside the plane itself.

The co-pilot stated in the report that there had been a failure of the communications systems.

He said that after landing, the cabin filled with smoke and the plane was surrounded by fire.

Both the pilot and the co-pilot were able to exit the aircraft. The pilot suffered serious injuries and the co-pilot suffered minor injuries.

According to the report, there were no engine malfunctions prior to the crash and the aircraft's last continuous airworthiness review was completed on July 11, 2024.
