Attacker arrested for killing man outside bar

A man who killed a defenceless man in an “unprovoked” attack outside a pub has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Steven Chappell, 29, of Cwmdare, Rhondda Cynon Taf, was found guilty of manslaughter in a trial at Cardiff Crown Court in July.

Daniel Bradley, 32, died in hospital on September 23, 2023, two weeks after he was kicked, punched and pushed to the ground outside the Brogden pub in Porthcawl, Bridgend County.

South Wales Police said Mr Bradley posed no threat and was the victim of a “reckless” attack.

The jury at his trial was shown footage of the incident, with the prosecution saying Mr Bradley was “defenceless”.

He suffered a displaced fracture of his right ribs, brain damage caused by lack of oxygen, and developed a chest infection that led to sepsis.

“Daniel was the victim of a brutal, unprovoked attack,” said Det. Insp. Claire Lamerton.

“Daniel posed no threat and nothing happened that night to justify Steven Chappell’s actions.

“Instead of walking away, Steven Chappell's anger resulted in the attack on Daniel being excessive, unnecessary and completely reckless.”
