19-year-old killed in shooting in Brighton at weekend – identity confirmed

A 19-year-old who was killed in a shooting in Brighton over the weekend has now been identified.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the juvenile victim as Martez Reshard Paige Jr. He lived in Bessemer.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputies were notified by Brighton Police that a shooting had occurred Saturday at the corner of Jaybird Road and Edward Street.

Paige was found unconscious on the street next to a silver vehicle. He had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:04 a.m.

Nearby, investigators found a second crime scene where an abandoned blue vehicle was parked, with evidence suggesting that someone inside the vehicle may be injured.

The investigation is being led by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

No further details were released and no arrests were announced.

Paige's death is the 127th murder case in Jefferson County this year.
