Akron police officer Geoffrey Parker charged with child pornography

Geoffrey Parker was arrested by Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations agents around 9 p.m. Friday and charged with sexual assault of a minor and illegal use of a minor in material containing nudity, both felonies.

“I am appalled to learn of these allegations against one of our employees. I thank the Bureau of Criminal Investigation for their handling of this case and trust that the legal process will reveal the truth,” Akron Police Chief Brian Harding said in a statement. “Anyone who behaves in this way should be held accountable for their actions to the fullest extent possible under the law. I am confident that justice will prevail.”

The Akron Police Department will conduct a separate internal investigation.
