One dead and two seriously injured in traffic accident on the Ohio Turnpike on Sunday morning

ERIE COUNTY, Ohio (WTVG) – One person is dead and two others were seriously injured following a crash on the Ohio Turnpike Sunday morning.

The accident occurred on August 18 at around 5:46 a.m. in Erie County.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Manuel Alvarez-Loreto of Cleveland was driving eastbound near mile marker 112 in Erie County when he slowed in the right lane. His vehicle was then struck from behind by a Ford Fusion, forcing both vehicles onto the right shoulder of the road.

According to OSHP, Alvarez-Loreto, his passenger and the driver of the Ford Fusion were taken to an area hospital. Alvarez-Loreto succumbed to his injuries. His passenger and the other driver were both hospitalized in serious condition.

All three people involved were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

According to OSHP, the accident is currently under investigation.
