Nonprofit organization helps rescue animals in animal hoarding case

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – It's been more than a week since the Garrard County Sheriff's Office arrested David Kirkpatrick on 62 counts of animal cruelty.

Those who have taken in these animals say that 25 of these dogs have been placed, but 50 of them still have a long way to go.

Anita Spreitzer of Paws 4 the Cause has been helping animals for as long as she can remember. But she says the work doesn't get any easier and can't be done alone.

The organization has offered its assistance to the Garrard County Animal Shelter in the Kirkpatrick case.

Spreitzer says Paws 4 The Cause has a lot of people who believe in their mission, so they get the support they need.

Paws 4 The Cause is currently caring for four dogs. Two were rescued from the Kirkpatrick case, including Kira and another 5-month-old husky.

Spreitzer says the dogs are “very loving” and “very sweet.” She also says the younger of the two is “a runaway train” who is “not particularly well-mannered.”

The organization also brought two more dogs: the somewhat shy Tina and the talkative Max, to free up much-needed space in the animal shelter.

In the meantime, Paws 4 the Cause continues to support new ideas and actions to prevent a situation like this from happening again.

“Something has to change. It's time for a change here in Kentucky,” Spreitzer said.
