Tragic causes of death revealed

Hyderabad: Former Olympic cyclist Daniela Larreal Chirinos was found dead after suffocating, according to a report by Fox Sports. Authorities at the hotel where she was employed were informed of her constant absence and discovered the body of the Venezuelan athlete.

The 50-year-old Olympian reportedly died of asphyxiation caused by food particles in her windpipe. The Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV) confirmed this in a statement released in Spanish on 'X'.

“The COV Board regrets the departure of Daniela Larreal. With an outstanding career in track cycling, she managed to represent us with honour at five Olympic Games, collecting four Olympic diplomas and triumphs that have always filled us with great pride,” reads a translation of the tweet.

The five-time Olympian is believed to have died of asphyxiation on August 11. Although the athlete reportedly died of asphyxiation, police have yet to officially confirm this.

Who is Chirinos?

The 50-year-old represented the country at the five Olympic Games: 1992 in Barcelona, ​​1996 in Atlanta, 2000 in Sydney, 2004 in Athens and 2012 in London. The cyclist had a disappointing performance at the 1992 and 1996 Games, but ended her 2000 Olympic campaign with an eighth place in the individual sprint. Four years later, she again finished eighth in the individual sprint. In 2012, she took part in several competitions and achieved seventh place in the team sprint and eighth place in the Kerin competition together with her teammate Mariaesthela Viera.

In the five Olympic editions, Chirinos has won four Olympic diplomas. The diplomas are awarded to those who achieve a top-8 finish in the races.
