Woman allegedly killed landlord and his cat

A south-east London woman is suspected of beating her 72-year-old landlord to death and stabbing his pet cat named Snow, the Old Bailey heard.

Habiba Naveed, 34, is accused of murdering lawyer Christopher Brown last Wednesday and causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.

The Metropolitan Police launched an investigation after Mr Brown's body was discovered in the home he shared with Ms Naveed in Polsted Road, Lewisham.

The house cat Snow was also found dead, with a knife wound to the neck.

An autopsy revealed that Mr Brown had died from blunt force trauma.

Ms Naveed was arrested on suspicion of murder last Thursday and taken to a south London police station, where she was later charged with both offences.

Prosecutor Kerry Broome told the Old Bailey: “The defendant is suspected of murdering her landlord/boyfriend.”

“The house cat was also found dead on the property.”

Judge Judy Khan KC remanded Ms Naveed in custody and she is due to appear in court for a hearing on 5 November.
