Dr. Jake Landsberger is the father of the late Australian journalist Sam Landsberger, who died in a tragic car accident.

Sam crossed a street at the intersection of Bridge Road and Church Street in Richmond around 10:20 a.m. (local time) on Tuesday when he was hit by a truck.

He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after the accident, but tragically did not survive.

Sam leaves behind numerous family and friends, including his father, Dr Jacob Landsberger, who is well known throughout Australia as the former team doctor for the Western Bulldogs.

All about Dr. Jake Landsberger

Dr. Jacob Landsberger holds medical and scientific degrees and is a member of the Australian and international sports medicine associations.

He has been practicing as a general practitioner in Footscray for almost five decades.

He has worked with Westmed Medical Centre and was previously the long-serving medical officer for the Western Bulldogs football team for over twenty years.

Dr. Landsberger specializes in muscle and bone problems caused by injury or disease.

He is the father of Sam Landsberger, a sports journalist with the Herald Sun and Fox Footy. He was a regular contributor to Fox Footy and appeared on the Midweek Tackle Show.

Sam, 35, died in a tragic car accident on Tuesday, August 20th.

One of the rising stars in Australian sports journalism, Landsberger began his career in 2010 writing about VFL football for the Herald Sun.

He has received numerous awards for his work, including the Walkley Young Journalist of the Year and three consecutive awards at the annual Twenty20 media awards.

Friends and colleagues of Sam Landsberger paid their last respects to him after his tragic death.

Mark Robinson, the Herald Sun's chief football writer, described him as the “future of journalism”.

The Western Bulldogs also paid tribute to him because of his father’s connections to the club.

“…Everyone at the Western Bulldogs is shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Sam Landsberger. As well as being a talented and respected journalist, Sam was also a passionate Bulldogs fan and had close family ties through his father Jake, the club's former long-serving medical officer and lifelong member of the Bulldogs,” the club wrote in a post on its social media channels.
