The Watchtower rises! The Justice League is back and bigger than ever! In the wake of Absolute Power and the DC All-In SpecialDarkseid's death has created a massive power vacuum in the DCU, and Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman must unite like never before and expand the Justice League to encompass all heroes who stand for the forces of good in the face of incredible evil! As our heroes work to unravel the mystery of the Dark Lord's successor, Ray Palmer's nuclear project sparks a race between hero and villain to control the fate of metahuman abilities on planet Earth, threatening to destroy everything the League has built. Worlds will live, worlds will die, and there's a surprise waiting on the final page… Don't miss the start of the new era of justice – it all begins here!

As previously confirmed by DC, Darkseid's “energies” will cause the creation of the Absolute Universe, a far darker and more twisted version of the main universe known to fans. It's entirely possible that this Absolute Universe will be created from the energies Darkseid releases specifically when he dies, suggesting that he died in an entirely new way, as this has never happened before.

DC All-In Special #1 Variant Cover by Rafa Sandoval

DC All In Special 1 Sandoval Variant Cover: Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman attack Darkseid in space.

Darkseid has threatened the DCU countless times and has been defeated by the Justice League almost every time. Usually it's just a matter of thwarting his plans and things don't go as far as killing him. But that wasn't the case in Last crisis by Grant Morrison and JG Jones. After Darkseid has almost achieved his goals, Batman shoots Darkseid with a special bullet that seemingly kills the new god. Darkseid does return, but that is simply because it almost impossible to kill one of the new gods. But that simple fact seems to be changing this fall.

#1 will be available from DC Comics on October 2, 2024.

Since their earliest days in Jack Kirby's original 1970s series, Darkseid and the rest of the New Gods have been the personifications of ideas; they are not easy to kill. Even if someone kills their “bodies,” they are only avatars of what they represent. Darkseid's true form is much harder to defeat, which is why this new death is so surprising. Every time Darkseid died, everything went on as normal until he returned. But this time his death seems to trigger the creation of a completely new universeThis could indicate that Darkseid might really be dead this time, to the surprise of everyone, including the fans.

The rest of the New Gods, including Orion, Mister Miracle, Lightray and others, will be introduced in a brand new

Darkseid's death could really be final this time

Darkseid Created by Jack Kirby

It's a bold decision by DC to launch a brand new, all-encompassing initiative with exciting new stories by killing off one of their greatest villains. Since Darkseid's energy may have created the Absolute Universe, it's hard to imagine how he could return, as it seems his essence has been completely submerged in the Absolute Universe. While Darkseid has been a major threat to the universe for decades, it seems Superman and the Justice League can finally breathe a sigh of relief, as Darkseid is no more.
