Actor Darshan is neither battling food poisoning nor lack of nutritious food in Bengaluru Central Jail, according to an order issued by the Director General (Prisons and Corrections) rejecting the actor's request to get food from home or other facilities at his own cost.

A copy of the order issued by Director General (Prisons and Correctional Institutions) Malini Krishnamoorthy was produced before the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday (August 20) during the hearing of Mr Darshan's petition challenging the district court's decision to reject his application for home food.

While his petition was pending, the Supreme Court had asked the prison authorities to decide on his application as the actor had by then already submitted a separate written application to the prison superintendent seeking home boarding.

The Director General's order dated August 14 states that the actor had been suffering from a viral fever, which had been successfully treated. For some time now, he had been developing pains in his body due to the fever, so he had been given additional nutritious food, including calcium and vitamin D3 supplements, on the advice of prison doctors.

The DG's order also states that the actor had previously undergone treatment for his back pain and that he was suffering from persistent pain for which he was receiving appropriate treatment.

Justice M. Nagaprasanna, before whom the petition was placed for hearing, adjourned the further hearing as the actor's counsel stated that they were yet to receive a copy of the order issued by the Attorney General.

The actor has been in prison since his arrest in a murder case in June.
