Police officer injured after chase in Clifton

A Newark police officer suffered minor injuries when a chase in Clifton ended in an accident.

According to Newark police, it all started with an attempt to stop a motor vehicle, but it turned into a chase through at least three cities that eventually ended with an accident in Clifton.

When News 12's Tony Caputo arrived at the scene at the Clifton Commons Mall just off Kingsland Avenue, a Newark Police Department vehicle was parked in the bushes after crashing into a fence.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle they attempted to stop on McCarter Highway in Newark refused to do so.

According to police, there were three men in the vehicle. The driver drove through Newark's North Ward and on to Belleville.

The pursuit ended after the suspect's vehicle crashed through a fence and into a parking lot of L3 Harris Technologies.

After a short pursuit on foot, the police were able to arrest all three suspects.

A police officer complained of pain and was taken to the University Hospital for examination.
