Police search for suspects after fatal crash in Taneytown involving stolen vehicle

This morning, at approximately 4:33 a.m., the Carroll County Sheriff's Office received a call about a serious traffic accident on Francis Scott Key Highway, south of Kump Station Road in Taneytown, Maryland.

When officers arrived, they found a tragic scene. Two vehicles were involved in the crash and a 55-year-old man was lying unconscious in the northbound lanes. The man was later identified as Terry Lee Crowl, a Taneytown resident. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 5:00 a.m.

According to the initial investigation, a black 2019 Infiniti QX60 was traveling south on the highway when it crossed the center line and collided with Crowl's yellow 2022 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which was traveling northbound. The collision was so severe that the Infiniti left the road and landed near the tree line on the north side.

Witnesses told officers they saw two men fleeing the Infiniti on foot after the crash. The men are believed to be Hispanic or black, in their early 20s, and both were wearing dark clothing. Authorities have since discovered that the Infiniti was reported stolen in Baltimore City.

A few hours after the crash, at 7:06 a.m., officers received another report of a stolen vehicle – this time a white 2017 Ford Econoline box truck owned by Schildwachter Plumbing. The truck was stolen from the 4400 block of Teeter Road. Police are investigating whether there is a connection between the two incidents, but so far the truck has not been located.

Law enforcement is taking this search very seriously. The Carroll County Sheriff's Office drone unit, canine units, Maryland State Aviation Patrol, Taneytown Police, and even a bloodhound from York County, Pennsylvania, are all involved in the search. Despite these efforts, the suspects are still at large.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and if you notice anything suspicious that may be related to this incident, please call 911 immediately.

The investigation is ongoing. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
