21-year-old charged with drug trafficking in Clay County

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – A 21-year-old man faces drug charges in Clay County following a seizure of fentanyl last week.

Josiah J. Langston is charged with two counts of first-degree drug trafficking and resisting arrest.

Langston was arrested Thursday afternoon in the 3900 block of N. Skiles Avenue.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office said authorities were looking for Langston on a previous drug trafficking warrant.

Langston allegedly attempted to flee from authorities by ramming a patrol vehicle, but no injuries were reported when he was arrested.

According to the sheriff's office, the 21-year-old's vehicle contained 1.5 pounds of fentanyl powder, 0.4 pounds of methamphetamine and $2,000 in cash.

“Just two milligrams of fentanyl can constitute a lethal dose. This means that the amount of fentanyl seized could have killed nearly two-thirds of the population of Kansas City, Missouri,” the sheriff's office said in a press release.

Langston is being held at the Clay County Detention Center on $450,000 bail.

He is due in court on Tuesday, August 27, for a bail reduction hearing.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office Drug Task Force and Special Operations Squad were assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Drug Enforcement Administration in the arrest and investigation of this case.

According to the sheriff's office, additional charges, possibly at the federal level, could be brought against Langston.
