Indian doctors protest against violence after the tragic death of a colleague

Thousands of Indian doctors have walked out and refused to end the protests sparked by the tragic rape and murder of their colleague Dr. Nisha Kumari earlier this month. This horrific incident took place at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata and sparked outrage in the medical community and the public.

The 31-year-old junior doctor was attacked on August 9 and protests erupted almost immediately. Medical professionals across India have temporarily suspended their non-emergency services to show solidarity against the violence faced by women, especially those working in the health sector.
