Man from Inwood, West Virginia, dies in shooting in Martinsburg

An Inwood, West Virginia, man is dead following a shooting Monday night at a motel in Martinsburg, West Virginia, according to a news release from the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired at the Economy Inn at 1620 Winchester Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. and found a man with a gunshot wound to the chest. David Scott Bennett, 65, of Inwood, was taken to Berkeley Medical Center, where he later died.

The news release listed Michael Allen Taylor, 38, of Martinsburg as “other parties involved,” but said the incident is under investigation. The sheriff's department does not believe the incident poses another active threat to the public, it said.
