1 arrested, another wanted in murder of 16-year-old Wrens in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – An 18-year-old has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in July.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office said Malcolm Bryant was arrested Monday in the Death of 16-year-old Sadiq Brown from Wrens.

According to the Richmond County Coroner's Office, the shooting occurred on July 5 in the parking lot of 2622 Peach Orchard Road.

Crime in Augusta

The coroner said Brown was shot at least once and was taken to Piedmont Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:34 p.m.

At 10:55 p.m., the Richmond County Sheriff's Office was called to a local hospital on a call where a male suspect had been shot.

Upon their arrival, officers were informed that the male suspect had been taken to the hospital by car with at least one gunshot wound.

According to the sheriff's office, Bryant is charged with murder and possession of a firearm or knife during a crime.

Also in July, Richmond County officials were searching for 18-year-old Kieran Darnell Walters. Walters is wanted for murder in connection with the shooting that killed Brown.

According to officials, Walters is known to frequent the Harrisburg area and is considered armed and dangerous.

The authorities have blamed gangs for the problemand many of the victims and suspects were young men, like Brown.
