Five men charged in federal court in fentanyl death of Hopkins County man

SHERMAN, Texas (KLTV) – A federal grand jury has indicted five men accused in the 2023 fentanyl death of a Hopkins County man.

Brayden Wooten, 21, of Sulphur Springs, was found dead in his home on December 23, 2023. He had died of a fentanyl overdose. Five men were arrested and charged in the investigation into Wooten's death. On Thursday, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas filed charges against all five suspects.

Marques DShawn Hood, 24, of Commerce; Kennedy Kirby, 30, of Garland; Xavier Hill, 24, of Sulphur Springs; Tyler Bromley, 27, of Rockwall; and Bryson Lacy, 22, of Sulphur Springs were all named in the first count of the indictment. The charge related to trafficking and possession with intent to distribute a large quantity of fentanyl, which resulted in Wooten's death.

Kirby and Hood were named on counts two and three of possession of firearms during a drug offense.

The five suspects face 20 years to life in federal prison, a fine of up to $10 million and five years of probation for the first count. Kirby and Hood face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for their weapons offenses.

No court dates have yet been set for the suspects.
