1 dead after shooting in Reston, suspect on the run – NBC4 Washington

A man is dead and the man who fatally shot him is on the run following a shooting Tuesday afternoon in Reston, Virginia.

The two men were working out in the same area of ​​a Gold's Gym in the 11800 block of Sunrise Valley Road when one of the men approached the other and shot him, police said.

After the suspect shot the victim, he ran away on foot, police said. The victim was found by officers in the gym with “injuries to the upper body,” according to Captain Kent Bailey, spokesman for Fairfax Police. It is not yet clear whether the victim had more than one gunshot wound.

The victim was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The man has not yet been identified and police are working to locate and notify his next of kin before his identity is made public.

Police are still investigating whether the two men knew each other, whether an argument between the two led to the shooting and how a possible altercation involving firearms came about.

Fairfax County police also said they are searching for the suspect, who is still at large. The man believed to be the shooter was last seen running toward Reston Parkway shortly before 3 p.m.

The police do not believe there was a danger to the public, as the violence was directed against the man who was killed.

Police officers are on the scene with canine units and Fairfax One's helicopter division searching for the weapon, the suspect and any other information about the violent incident. The investigation is expected to continue into Tuesday evening.
