Man who allegedly beat a Manhattan pizzeria worker nearly to death says he is ‘very sorry’

The man who allegedly beat a Manhattan pizzeria employee so brutally that he is still fighting for his life said Tuesday he was “sorry” after police handcuffed him.

According to police sources, 35-year-old Tyshaun Watson entered the Roma Pizza on the corner of 19th Street and 5th Avenue in the Flatiron District with his dog around 9:55 p.m. Monday night. Sources with direct knowledge of the situation report that the employee reprimanded the heavily intoxicated Watson for not having his dog on a leash.

Watson was reportedly not happy about this and began to brutally attack the 50-year-old worker. He even went so far as to kick him in the head. During the fight, the dog also bit both men.

Law enforcement sources report that the victim suffered a brain hemorrhage and was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he is still fighting for his life. Watson was arrested at the scene. The dog was taken to the Animal Care and Control Unit.

After questioning at the 13th Precinct, detectives escorted Watson out of the station in handcuffs to prepare him for his appearance before the judge. His left arm was wrapped in a bandage because of the dog bites.

“I am very sorry for the victim,” Watson said as he was taken away. “He is in my heart.”

Watson is charged with attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault.
