Northwestel acknowledges internet issues in several NWT communities

Northwestel says an ongoing issue is affecting internet speeds in Mackenzie Valley communities and technicians are trying to resolve the problem.

Inuvik residents reported slow internet speeds to Cabin Radio on Saturday.

One of the participants said the company initially described the problem as a “single line issue” in his home, but later told him a larger problem was brewing.

In a brief statement Tuesday afternoon, the company said it was “aware that some customers in the Mackenzie Valley region, including the communities of Inuvik, Tuktoyaktuk, Aklavik, Fort McPherson and Tsiigehtchic, are experiencing issues with their internet speeds.”

“Our engineers are working hard to resolve the issue,” Northwestel added.
