2 arrests after fatal quadruple shooting in East Oakland over the weekend

Oakland police announced two arrests in connection with a four-person shooting that left four people dead in East Oakland over the weekend.

According to a statement from the authorities, the arrests took place on Monday. Police did not release the names of the suspects.

Saturday around 9 a.m., Officers were called to the 1600 block of 83rd Avenue after a ShotSpotter activation in the area. When police arrived, they found four people with gunshot wounds, two of whom were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are not releasing the identities of the victims while they notify their next of kin.

The other two victims were taken to hospitals for further treatment. Police said on Tuesday that their condition was critical.

According to preliminary investigations, several people were involved in a verbal argument prior to the shooting. The incident escalated when an armed suspect pulled out a firearm and fired several shots at the group, hitting the victims.

The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle before police arrived.

Police said Tuesday that the case against the two suspects would be forwarded to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office for further processing.
