Authorities warn parents about drug-containing snacks after traffic stop in Fond du Lac

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WBAY) – The Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office is urging parents to educate their children about the dangers of consuming snacks or candy from unknown sources.

The alert followed a traffic stop that resulted in the arrest of an 18-year-old Madison man and the discovery of over a pound of snacks infused with psilocybin mushrooms and THC.

The arrest came after an officer initiated a traffic stop for an equipment violation. During the stop, the officer noticed suspicious behavior and requested a canine unit, which initiated a search. Officers found a box that had recently been shipped from Oregon to Wisconsin. The box contained snacks and other items, all laced with illegal substances. The products, packaged in colorful packaging, appeared to be designed to appeal to younger demographics.

The sheriff's office highlighted the dangers these products pose, especially to children. Without any form of food testing or regulation, the true contents of these products remain unknown, increasing the risk of serious health consequences.

The Madison teenager was arrested on multiple drug charges and booked into the Fond du Lac County Jail. Authorities continue to investigate the source and distribution of the drug-laced products.

Parents are strongly advised to talk to their children about the risks associated with consuming unfamiliar snacks and sweets.
